This weekend I planted potatoes. I felt like I was burying tiny hedgehogs in the ground! They were so insanely cute that I kept two in a bowl as pet potatoes.
Here's what I've learned about potatoes: Planting potatoes is very different from planting seeds, and it's even different from planting other root veggies that I've grown. Like carrots and turnips, the potatoes grow underground instead of above the soil. This makes them great for container gardening! If you plant potatoes in the ground, you have to begin by digging a trench to plant them in. If you plant them in a container, you can just place them at the bottom of the container in some shallow soil. Check out my illustration of how I planted my Red Norland potatoes in buckets.
