Farm Wisdom: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

From Thomas’s Old Farmer's Almanac, 1849:

"We have sometimes an inclination to spend a few dollars in the purchase of manure, which is the custom of some. However, it is better to make all the manure you can on your farm, and do without the rest, than to hire cash to purchase it with. Dig gold out of the ground—be your own miner—you must not go beyond the depth of the soil to find it. The coin thus procured will abide with you better than that which is obtained by mortgaging your farm."
